Under the slogan "Milk – Drink it up", the EU Commission has launched an EU school milk information campaign which aims to raise awareness of the benefits of milk consumption and the availability of EU funds to schools. As part of this campaign, young people will be invited to take part in a photo competition on the theme "Milk power".
The launch follows the adoption of a new version of the EU School Milk Scheme by the EU Commission with simple and clear implementation rules that provides a larger range of healthy dairy products to more children, in response to the requests and suggestions of Member States and the European Parliament.Check out the new EU School Milk Programme campaign here: http://drinkitup.europa.eu/
"A Sustainable Dairy Sector Global, regional and life cycle facts and figures on greenhouse-gas emmissions"
CE Delft concludes in this report that dairy livestock emissions contribute 1.2% to the total global greenhouse-gas emissions. In the last 20 years the on-farm methane emissions in the Annex - I countries decreased with 20-30%. The cradle-to-farmgate emissions of milk contribute 3% to the total global climate emissions; post-farm emissions add 10-20% to the cradle-to-farmgate emissions.
Besides the global situation, also regional difference and the emission per kg milk produced are considered in this study.
This report has been presented at the EDA World Dairy Forum 2008 in Porto and is available on this website under publications/other publications.
